A weekend was spent at my mama's house. You know, she's the one who raised me... and still is. I learn so much from this amazing lady. I now know that there were times when I should have listened better or taken her advice when I thought I knew.
On a Friday we packed up and headed to her house and spent the day chasing kids from the hot tub to the pool. It seemed my mom and I would get the kids (my 5 plus my sisters 2) entertained with one thing and they'd decide they were ready to do something else. But they had a great time riding their bikes to the cemetery, digging in the dirt pile, and jumping on the tramp with the neighbours. Ty, Chelsey, and Draven play together and Kami tries to boss Jaxon around. It works out great. When they are tired of each other, Jaxon will chase the boys while the girls have some down time with a snack and a movie.
Natalie was a gem as usual and came with us to Waterton for dinner with some of Dan's friends from high school and their wives. It was a lot of fun to chat with the other mom's and hear some of the fun FHE ideas they had.
Saturday we checked out the show n'shine "downtown" and had a picnic lunch at the park. It was so relaxing. We decided to stay overnight again (my mom has the most comfy beds and pillows). Ty got to go tubing down the river with my sis and her family. We spent the evening in Waterton, nursing ice cream cones and playing in the waves. I hung back a little and tried not to notice the ache in my ribs that I get when one of my kids is not near. It was great to pick Ty up and hear about the fun that he had. He was the "helper" who jumped off the tube and pulled it to shore when they needed... and he jumped off of his first cliff (8ft high). It was probably good that he was with them because he might have missed out on that experience if I was there!
I used to get really overwhelmed and stressed out when we stayed at my moms house. Worrying that she might think my kids weren't behaving but such was not the case this weekend. It was so relaxing... all I can think about is going back. As soon as I walk into my mom's house I take a deep breath. There is just something about that smell, welcoming, sort of like baking bread but fresh farm air too.
2 things of note: One, as we drove and Paige had her nap in the van, I love watching my babies sleep. I call it their "sleep face" and they don't make it any other time. Paige still puckers her little hands into fists when she sleeps. The other, my moms carpet + summertime feet.... I think this is as good as the smell and the great pillows.... like spongy moss massaging your toes with eveystep.
