On Chelsey's second birthday I had a doctor's appt. It was confirmed that the baby I was carrying was breech and I was terrified to have a c-section. I remember being totally distracted at Chelsey's "party". We had both sets of grandparents over for Chinese Food and cake. I think it was more of a pity party for myself then a birthday party for little Chelsey. My originally due date had been April 1st. At my first ultrasound they changed it to April 14th. I was disgusted but still planned on having my baby early, like I had my first two. However, the closer I got to the due date, the more things went wrong.
On March 24th I was booked to have the baby "turned". Now, for those of you who have had this done you know how painful it is.... and for those of you who haven't, pray you will never have to. It involves mama lying on her back (which is uncomfortable enough 9 months pregnant) while the doctor pushes the baby into a different position. The doc tried 3 times to "turn" my teeny baby and each time we'd watch the lump on my belly slide right back to where she had been (see, she was stubborn even before she was born!). By the third time I begged him to stop and insisted he just cut the baby out. Yes, it hurts that bad. In fact, there are witnesses to me writhing and moaning in pain on the bed because on the other side of the curtain was a good friend, in the hospital preparing to have her baby.
The good doc confirmed that a c-section was in order and I tried to talk him into doing it that day. My mom had a week off starting that day so it would have worked out great for me! But get this... he felt my belly and said "nope, there is a 4 lb baby in there. I'm not taking it out until I absolutely have to". I argued that at an ultrasound the day before they told me the baby weighed 5 lbs, 6 ounces and surely that was big enough to be born today. He said that there was no way the baby was that big. Was he right? Guess you'll have to wait to find out.....
He checked with the ultrasound once more and discovered that the baby's head was not in proportion with the size of the baby. When something is not right and the baby is not growing properly, growth of the brain takes priority (thank goodness). This was why the other ultrasound tech told me the baby was bigger (because they go by head measurements). The doctor decided that the baby did need to come out sooner than later because something "was not right" and we had no idea what..... until she was born.

I have heard that it hurts to get the baby turned. Although, c-sections are not ideal either!
