Twice a week

This afternoon I decided amidst the chaos to take some time for myself and sit down to read for a bit. Four kids are at school and one is napping. I have major cleaning and laundry to do... also, some last minute things to get ready for Activity Days tonight. But the couch and my book were calling my name. It's dark and snowy outside... my favorite kind of day to be snuggled up reading a good book. I sat down and realized I'd forgotten to turn off my music. I had been listening to a CD that one of my best friends, Jodi gave to me in the spring. It's a mixture of hymns, some with words, some just music and a lot of piano. Which I love. I listened to this CD a lot when it was given to me but for some reason found that it made me sad. It's funny how things change. Today (and everyday lately) I play it because it makes me happy.

As I was sitting there with my book in my lap enjoying the peace of the afternoon (what is it about snow that is so peaceful?) and the music, I was thinking about my life. About how incredibly blessed I am. About how happy I am. The music stirred my soul... I thought about hard times in the past and how I tried to stay faithful and strong and to continue to be the best I could be. And about how it has all paid off. It was really, really hard. I don't know how else to explain it. I'm so glad to be moving forward.

Life is beautiful.

And so are Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. I love my kids but I also love having some time for just me. To ponder life and realize all the ways that I am so blessed.

I almost cried too and then I thought to be thankful is more appropriate. I am thankful you made it through. I am thankful that you are my daughter and that we have such a good relationship. I'm glad you got to rest and read. I'm glad we have the gospel in our lives to help us through hard times. I love you with all my heart, daughter of mine.
