lunchtime

I always complain about the lunch hour. I say it's the worst part of my day and I will admit there is usually some sort of yelling that is going on during lunch.

It's loud. It's a rush. I never seem to make the lunch of my children's dreams. I'm usually watching the clock, waiting for it to be over.

I spend it looking forward to the time the kids go back to school, I can lay Talie down for her nap, and usually do whatever I want with little distraction for the afternoon.

Today it was really cold out so I decided this morning to take a lunch to the school so the kids didn't have to walk home in the freezing cold wind. Lunchtime snuck up on me. All of a sudden my stomach was growling and it was noon and dang it! I missed my kids!

I missed seeing Kami all bundled up in all of her snow gear (which she wears everyday, regardless of whether it's +5 or -20) She is as wide as she is tall with her little pixie face peaking out from underneath her toque. I missed her asking me about her baby and if I did a good job babysitting her while she was at school.

I missed Chelsey stomping through the door first announcing that she forgot Kami at school (and I fall for it and panic everyday....) I missed her excitement in telling me about her morning, who said what about who and what they are learning about in class.

I missed Ty coming in the front door, still laughing and joking with his friends as they pass by our house. I missed him being appreciative about whatever I made, scarfing it down and searching the cupboards for something else to eat.

I missed Natalie's and Paige's excitement to see their siblings!

I missed checking that they brushed their teeth and washed their faces. I missed hearing all about their day so far. I missed hugging and kissing them all, telling them they are going to be late as I push them out the door when it is all over.

When we were house-shopping I really wanted to find a house that was close to the school so the kids could come home for lunch. And we really found the perfect house!

Although, it's a nice break to have them stay for lunch once in a while, it's even better having them come home!

So fun!!! Nathan stays at school for lunch because of naptime overlap and I sometimes am sad about missing all those little extra moments. Maybe when I'm done school we'll do lunches at home.:) Good for you for taking a moment to remember what is good in life.

I completely agree! I totally missed having Makenna home for lunch today too -- in fact I think I may just have her stay for the whole week with it being as cold as it is... but it makes for a REALLY long day when I don't see her at lunch time! (Oh, and Makenna was SO excited that Chels had Rootbeer flavored lip stuff at school -- how fun is that!)

Hey I miss them too. I wonder when I will be able to get off the farm again. Robert took the truck to Lethbridge and said the roads were great. Of course our road is totally blown in with snow. Our tractor won't work in the cold because the wiring at the barn isn't working. Oh boohoo! I hope I get to come and see those cute kids of yours soon and of course my wonderful daughter.
